I am utterly shocked at the outrage that has been shown by Islamic groups in Europe at the moment. Although Muslim people found the cartoon to be offensive, statements in protests such as "Behead those who insult Islam" are death threats and they should be immediately stopped and dealt with by the Police.
I believe strongly that freedom of speech is a right. However, threatening statements are not only ridiculous but are terrifying for those receiving it. As a person I believe that you should be able to disagree with religion or ways of another culture. I must stress that the cartoon should not have been published or even drawn but that the artist should have the right to do so if he so pleases. The reaction to the cartoon is so blown out of proportion that it is scary. It is scary that people will even talk to people sensibly who incite such terror.
With the religious hatred bill being overthrown in government last week it seems as though the now current law works well. Disagreeing with a religion is lawful but inciting violence is not.
